The qualified individual will focus their clinical and research efforts on patients with motility and functional bowel disorders. The faculty member will be actively involved in teaching GI Fellows, Residents, and medical students. Overton Brooks VA Medical Center under the supervision of the Chief of Gastroenterology and Chief, Medical Service.

This is a multi-dimensional position of clinical leadership. As part of the shared, cooperative partnership with our medical school affiliate, the successful candidate shall support furthering the education of medical students, residents, and fellows through lecture and presentations, provision of Grand Rounds, and through any other means designed to emphasize the development of those skills required to apply medical knowledge selectively based on individual cases and circumstances.

The physician will:

  • Provide comprehensive medical, gastroenterological and hepatology specialty services as appropriate for outpatients, inpatients, and nursing home patients;
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with liver and gastrointestinal diseases as appropriate according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques;
  • Provide services such as outpatient examinations, consultation services related to management of patients with liver diseases with the state of the art treatment regimens, and admission status to the facility;
  • Perform GI procedures for 10-15% of time if appropriately trained and depending on overall clinical needs.
  • Attend GI team committees, participate in quality assurance programs, and assist the facility to meet established performance measures in the area of hepatology;
  • Coordinate hepatology care of veterans with tertiary care VA medical centers especially with regard to liver transplantation and liver cancer;
  • Provide weekend and holiday coverage of the hepatology and/or gastroenterology consultation service at a frequency and in rotation as determined by Chief of Gastroenterology and Chief, Medical Service;
  • Maintain good diagnostic, judgmental and therapeutic acumen at all times;
  • Exercise corporate citizenship by serving as a leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested;
  • Serve as an integral part of our OB-VAMC medical service team serving our Veterans.
